However the franchise has long dodged continuity, with most films standing independent from each other and from their literary inspirations. Project 007 will not be the first attempt to tell James Bond’s origins Daniel Craig’s first turn as Bond in 2006’s Casino Royale previously functioned as a psuedo-origin, and Young Bond, a series of young adult novels by Charlie Higson and Steve Cole, attempted to fill in his early years.

IO Interactive’s track record with espionage games, particularly the Hitman franchise, makes them a clear choice to present an origin for 007, particularly as the character was written by his creator, Ian Fleming, with a touch of the modern action hero he has become since Pierce Brosnan wore his mantle. We now have some of the first story details for Project 007, a brand new James Bond game from IO Interactive, the team responsible for the Hitman series. “Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities,” Abrak said. However CEO Hakan Abrak calls Project 007 “the most ambitious game in the history of our studio,” which previously developed Kane & Lynch: Dead Men and Mini Ninjas.

However, the fact that IOI is just now hiring for the new game unfortunately means Project 007 is still a few years away. Bond fans that are looking for new content a little sooner will be pleased to hear that the latest film, No Time To Die, is finally set to release in April 2021.No further details were provided at this time, in regards to inspirations or release dates. Having been nearly a decade since the last 007 entry, many fans are hungry for a new game, especially one that features an entirely original story. One of the most innovative and influential first-person shooter games ever created, GoldenEye is effectively the "golden" standard when it comes to James Bond games, so it will be interesting to see if any elements or easter eggs related to the title find their way into Project 007. Now, it's nearly impossible to talk about 007 video games without mentioning the legendary GoldenEye for Nintendo 64. At the time of its release though, the game was widely panned by critics and players alike, and Bond hasn't shown up in a video game since. The character has a storied history of titles, the most recent being 2012's 007 Legends. Project 007 is far from James Bond's first foray into video games. This is especially good news considering movie-licensed games have a largely egregious track record. However, what is known is that Project 007 will tell the origin story of James Bond, and how he got his "00" agent status. IOI's collaboration with the franchise's movie production studio should (hopefully) be an indication of the developer's mission to provide a high-quality AAA game. As far as what exactly the game will consist of or how the gameplay will work remains unclear.
